The 3-P's provide the foundation for how language and literacy develop in young children

Phonics

Phonics is understanding the relationship between identifying letters and letter sounds. "C" makes the /C/ sound. Young children learn to decode words. 

Phonological Awareness

The conscious awareness of all levels of the speech sound system, including syllables, initial sounds, and phonemes.

Phonemic Awareness

Is the ability to be able to hear all the sounds in a word and identifying words that begin with the same time.
